Why we choose European timber and long-lasting design

Our understanding of sustainability

Sustainability is a big word. Perhaps too big to be used lightly. In an industry that tends to make promises, we believe in something simpler: taking responsibility for what we can actually influence. Not in abstract offsets, but in decisions that start right here in our workshop.

We don’t control the rainforest, but our craft

As a design workshop, we do not make promises that we cannot physically verify on the other side of the world. Instead, we focus on what we have at our disposal: local integrity. Our timber is FSC-certified, our supply chains are short, and our production takes place right here at home. We do not plant imaginary trees – we build furniture that lasts.

“An armchair for life – and beyond.”

Good design ages gracefully. Should your cover show signs of wear and tear after eight years, or should an accident have occurred, we offer a dedicated repair service. We replace the cover rather than the chair itself. We’ll collect the piece of furniture from you – in a used box, of course – because for us, conserving resources means keeping the cycle small.

Logistics beats branding: Why you won’t find teak here

We primarily use beech and oak out of conviction. Why? Because we believe in the integrity of materials. Teak may be a classic of mid-century design, but it inevitably comes from the other side of the world. Even an FSC label does nothing to change the poor carbon footprint of a journey across the oceans. We focus on what grows on our doorstep – for furniture that is as ecologically sound as its construction.

Our exception to the rule: on request, we are happy to use other woods for your one-of-a-kind piece. But we remain true to ourselves: we only use wood that hasn’t had to travel to us in a container. If it’s grown in Europe and meets our quality standards, we’ll make it happen. We leave everything else to the mass market.
