Cleaning & Care
Cleaning & Care of leather
- If possible, avoid permanent direct sunlight. Avoid exposing the leather to direct sunlight as this can cause fading or drying out. The leather has a UV resistance but less sun exposure leads to more longevity
- Use a damp cloth for cleaning. If the leather is dirty, use a slightly damp, soft cloth to gently wipe away the dirt. Make sure the cloth is not too wet to avoid damaging the leather.
- Use leather cleaners and care products: Special leather cleaners and care products will help you keep the leather supple and clean. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Feel free to contact us for recommendations.
- Avoid sharp objects: Our leather is not very sensitive, but it still makes sense to make sure that no broken jeans rivets cause scratches in the leather.
- Temperature and humidity: If possible, keep real leather furniture away from heaters or other heat sources. Extreme temperatures can damage the leather. Adequate humidity is also important to prevent cracking.
Cleaning & Care of fabrics
- Fabric furniture attracts dust and dirt, so it's worth vacuuming the furniture regularly to get rid of dust and hair.
- Stains should be treated as soon as possible. Use special upholstery cleaners or mild soap solutions. Test the cleaner on an inconspicuous area first to avoid discoloration.
- It is best to first remove stains with dabs. A wipe or rub can cause stains to become deeper into the fabric.
- All our fabrics have UV resistance but fabrics can fade or fray over time from exposure to the sun. If you can, position the furniture so that it's not exposed to direct sunlight. Please contact us for more information on UV resistance.
- Avoid too humid an environment for the furniture to prevent mold growth.
Repairs & Spare Parts
Spare Parts
It's annoying when something breaks or gets lost. As a rule, however, you can get spare parts for all of our products and do not have to buy a new piece of furniture. With a message in the chat, a call or an email to support@sternzeit-design.de we will help you as quickly and easily as possible.
Repairs
A spare part is not enough? The cat fought with the upholstery, the dog gnawed at the leg of the chair or the children used the sofa as a trampoline? Don't worry, we always try to help you with repairs if it makes sense for you, your wallet and the environment. We want to save resources and nerves and try to find solutions for everything. For example, you can send your chair body to us and we will reupholster it. Just contact us in the chat, by phone or by mail to support@sternzeit-design.de
Further Questions
What actually is piping?
Piping is the name for a cord tied into a fabric band. It is used to decorate or refine the edge seams of upholstered furniture or cushions and at the same time stabilize them and make them more durable. The production of a welt is a considerable amount of manual work. The production of different patterns and the course of the piping on the "upholstery edge" creates a different overall impression than with a piece of furniture without piping. The edges appear more harmonious, which is particularly evident in the corners, which appear rounder due to the piping. Ultimately, it is mainly a question of personal taste whether you prefer the harmonious, classic look with piping or the more puristic, reduced look without piping.
How is the upholstery structure of your furniture?
In the following we describe our standard upholstery structure, which may vary depending on the product:
Depending on the model, our wooden or multi-layer wooden frames are clamped, mortised, screwed and glued. After that, a metal snake spring and/or a padded belt unit is usually installed. On top of that there is a suitable PUR foam with a density of 27.5KG/m³ -35.0KG/m³. Of course, the density varies depending on where it is used (seat cushions or back cushions). Then a layer of upholstery fleece is laid before the final cover is put on. What is PUR foam and what is it suitable for? Depending on the production process, PUR foams or polyurethane foams offer a very wide range of applications. In order to obtain this versatile foam, polyol and isocyanate are foamed with carbonic acid and can now be produced in completely different consistencies. For example, PUR foams of a certain preparation with the appropriate consistency can be used in the building trade as assembly foam, adhesive or paint, and with yet another consistency for the production of shoe soles, hoses, bandages or packaging materials. Of course, PUR foam is also used in the manufacture of mattresses. PUR foam is very air permeable due to its open-pored cell structure. Furthermore, PUR foam is very elastic and dimensionally stable. PUR foam can be produced with a particularly high compressive strength and, due to its special properties, is just as suitable for the manufacture of mattresses as it is for processing into seat cushions or sofas. Due to its special structure, the breathable PUR foam ensures optimal transfer of body heat and body moisture. It offers the body optimal point elasticity and support function, as well as particularly good resilience due to the higher compression hardness - even with heavier weight loads. PUR foam is particularly durable and robust, so it can be used wherever there is greater stress. The higher the compressive strength and density, the better the foam withstands the stress.
What kind of upholstery foam do you use?
We currently use PUR foam.

How long is the guarantee?
Without exception, we give a 5-year guarantee on our entire range. And if something should happen after that, just contact us and we will find a good solution for everything.
Where is your furniture produced? Where do the materials come from?
- production
All of our furniture is handmade within a radius of 200km from Berlin. We are a Berlin family business with family ties to Poland and a strong connection to Brandenburg. In our Berlin office we plan and develop our ideas, which we then produce, test, photograph and send in Brandenburg and Poland.
2. sourcing
We source all our materials in Europe and try to become a little more regional with every step. Our wood comes from FSC-certified forestry in Germany and Poland, the New Life fabric and wool from Bavaria, our screws from Germany, the boxes from Poland and the leather from Italy. We transparently answer any question you have about the origin of any materials we use. Feel free to ask in the chat, by phone or by email to support@sternzeit-design.de
Are you sustainable? How do you define sustainability?
Unfortunately, sustainability has become more of a buzzword or “bullshit bingo” for greenwashing than a serious intention. We certainly haven't found the philosopher's stone here either, but we're trying to do our part.
How does it look?
Of course, when procuring the materials, we pay attention to standards such as Ökotex100, REACH or the Blue Angel. In our new warehouse that we are planning, our energy requirements should also come from renewable energies as far as possible. However, the following is very important to us: Returns are never disposed of by us unless there is really no other option. We process all returns or exhibitors or furniture from events and sell them once or twice a year in a second-hand sale. This is the only way we can achieve efficient use of raw materials and energy.
We also cut our fabric and leather patterns by hand from leftover fabric, for example. The wood patterns are also made from leftover wood.
We are constantly working on improvements and are always grateful for tips and suggestions. If you have any questions, please send them to us via chat, phone or email to support@sternzeit-design.de .
Can I get fabric, leather and wood samples?
Sure, of course. Ordering and shipping are also free.
Do you ship to my country?
By standard we ship to the entire EU, Switzerland, Norway and Great Britain. Parcel goods also in the whole world. On request, we can also ship anywhere by courier. If your country is not included in the selection options, please send us an inquiry to support@sternzeit-design.de .
What are the delivery costs for my country?
Take a look at the delivery cost overview here.
How long does my delivery take?
The important thing is that most of our orders are “made to order”. This means that we often only manufacture your furniture by hand for you after we have received your order. We can usually do this within 1 - 4 weeks and then your order will be shipped to you.
The delivery time also depends on where your order is being shipped to. Within Germany it only takes a few days, in the EU sometimes 3 - 7 days or more. Shipping outside the EU is difficult to predict and also depends on customs, among other things.
My order is older than 4 weeks but has not yet been shipped! What can I do?
First of all, if your order was delayed and we didn't get in touch with you proactively, we apologize in advance. Due to our production processes after the order has been received and the associated material stocks, there can sometimes be delays. We try to avoid this as best we can, but unfortunately we don't always succeed.
Diseases or other things can also interfere with us. Actually, it is our aim to let you know before the end of the shipping time is reached. If you have any questions, please contact us via chat, phone or email to support@sternzeit-design.de .
Where is my order?
You should have received the shipment tracking from us after shipping. If you have created a customer account, you will also find your order there, including tracking information. If the shipment tracking does not work or there is an error, please contact us by email at support@sternzeit-design.de .
How long does a refund take?
We ask for your understanding that a refund can take between 5 and 10 working days from receipt of the goods in our warehouse. This depends on the means of payment and we check each return manually and, if necessary, assign the necessary steps for processing.
What payment methods are accepted?
You can find a list of accepted payment methods here.
What are the return conditions?
You can try all orders at home for 100 days stress-free. After that, returns within the EU are also free of charge. This applies to both parcel and freight forwarding goods.
We offer this because we are convinced of the quality of our furniture.
If you need help with a return or have any questions, please send an email to support@sternzeit-design.de stating your order number
