The steel comes from the region, is sourced through Elgora near Berlin—a cooperatively organized trading structure—and produced in Eisenhüttenstadt. This ensures short transport routes and correspondingly low CO₂ emissions. The powder coating is applied locally near our warehouse in Eberswalde near Berlin.

Metal allows for slimmer profiles, precise lines, and long-term structural stability.

In many cases, we combine metal with wood to achieve the right balance between stability, comfort, and durability.

What is piping?
Piping is a visible, slightly raised seam edging found on upholstered furniture.
It is sewn between two layers of fabric or leather and accentuates lines and transitions.

In addition to its decorative effect, piping can also reinforce the seam and more clearly highlight the contours of a piece of furniture.

Effect
A piece of furniture with piping usually appears more precise and classic.
Without piping, it appears more understated and modern.

Sustainability
Sustainability and environmental responsibility are central components of Sternzeit Design.

Returned furniture is refurbished rather than disposed of. Fabric samples are cut by hand from fabric scraps to minimize waste.

All fabrics are certified to at least Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and are REACH-compliant. All leathers carry at least the Blue Angel eco-label. The materials come from selected manufacturers in Germany, Italy, Poland, and Portugal.
